Staging, and a preview for every pull request

Add staging to try changes before visitors see them, promote the exact tested build to production, and get a preview for each GitHub pull request.

Try a change somewhere safe before your visitors see it.

What's new

  • Staging, and up to 5 other environments, from the environment switcher at the top of a project. Each is a full copy with its own apps, empty databases, variables and a free address hidden from search engines.

  • Production is marked in red, and every screen says which environment you're in.

  • Promote: send the build you tested on staging to production, byte for byte, without building again. Roll back as usual.

  • Shared variables, set once for every environment, with an app's own variable winning.

  • A password on an environment's address, so only the people you choose can open it.

  • Previews of pull requests: each pull request on your GitHub repository gets its own preview, built again on each push, with its address posted on the pull request. A pull request from someone else's fork waits until you choose Approve and build.

  • Never production's secrets: staging and previews start without production's variables and data, so a test can't send real emails or take real payments.
