Tanzahost and cPanel hosting compared
Classic cPanel hosting next to Tanzahost: fixed plans or paying for use, FTP or a file manager, email, databases, apps, and what cPanel hosting does better.

cPanel is a control panel, not a host: a hosting company buys a cPanel licence for each server and sells you an account on it, as one of its plans. Tanzahost has no plans. Each site or app runs in its own sandbox and pays for the memory and processor it really uses, hour by hour, from a prepaid wallet. cPanel hosting still does one thing Tanzahost doesn't do yet: FTP.
Every fact about cPanel below comes from cPanel's own pages, listed at the end, as they were on 2026-10-17. They describe cPanel itself; each host that sells cPanel hosting sets its own plans and prices.
What the cPanel licence costs a host
cPanel prices its licence by the number of accounts on a server:
| Licence | Accounts | A month |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | 1 | $29.99 |
| Admin | Up to 5 | $35.99 |
| Pro | Up to 30 | $53.99 |
| Premier | Up to 100 | $69.99, then $0.49 for each extra account |
So the licence is paid per account, whatever each site uses. A host that sells you a cPanel plan pays its share of this inside your plan's price.
Side by side
| Tanzahost | Classic cPanel hosting | |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | Each site or app pays for the memory and processor it uses, per hour, from a prepaid wallet you top up by card. You set its limits. | A plan from your host, at its price, whatever your site uses. |
| Your files | A file manager in the browser, with uploads that carry on after a dropped connection (up to 2 GB a file), editing, a trash kept 7 days and the version before each save. | cPanel's File Manager, and FTP accounts with their own passwords and folders. |
| WordPress | WordPress in one click, with a strong admin password, and its cron run every 5 minutes as a scheduled task. | WordPress through the host's installer or cPanel's WP Toolkit. |
| PHP sites | Apache with PHP, so .htaccess works. You choose the PHP version, extensions and settings like upload_max_filesize. | The same idea: PHP sites with .htaccess, on the host's settings. |
| Databases | MySQL 8.4, MariaDB 11.8, PostgreSQL 18 and Valkey 9.2, or a shared MySQL for small sites. A table browser and imports of .sql files on the dashboard, and encrypted connections from your own tools when you switch them on. | MySQL or MariaDB, managed through phpMyAdmin. |
| Apps from code | Laravel, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Go, Java and Rust apps from a ZIP, or from GitHub once our GitHub app is set up: we detect your framework and build it, with workers and previews. | cPanel's AI App Hosting can deploy Node.js apps from a ZIP or a Git repository. |
| Cron | Scheduled tasks as often as every minute, each run's output kept. | Cron jobs, with an email address for their output. |
| SSL | Free certificates for your domains, issued and renewed by themselves. | AutoSSL, for domain-validated certificates. |
| Mailboxes on your domain, read in our webmail, on phones and in Outlook, with aliases, forwarding, auto-replies and the domain's email records set for you. See email hosting. | Email accounts on your domain. | |
| Backups | 5 days a week by themselves, encrypted, in another place, each kept 7 days. Restore everything, one database or the files, take a database back to a minute, or download one as a ZIP. See backups. | Backups you make and download yourself: your home folder as .tar.gz, each database as .sql. |
| Your neighbours | Each site and app in its own sandbox, with its own memory and processor limits. | Many accounts share one server, within the host's limits. |
What cPanel hosting does better
FTP, for tools and people who already use it.
One price you know in advance, when your host sells a fixed plan that suits your site.
What Tanzahost does differently
You pay for what your site uses, reading today's priceshow billing works.
Apps as well as sites. A Laravel shop with a queue worker, a Python API or a Node.js app runs beside your WordPress site, in the same project.
One-click business apps: WordPress with WooCommerce, Odoo, Metabase and Uptime Kuma, each with its own database, backups, and updates that take a backup first. See one-click apps.
Your own limits, set with a slider, and a spending cap on your wallet.
Logs and numbers for every site: what it printed, each visit's answer and time, memory and processor use.
A terminal in the browser inside your site's sandbox, on for every site. cPanel has a Terminal too, when your host switches it on.
Moving domains without losing email: when you switch your domain to our nameservers, we read its current email records first and keep them.
What Tanzahost doesn't do yet
FTP, SFTP and SSH from your own computer.
Moving a whole cPanel account for you. Today you move each site by hand, in a few steps.
Moving over
Moving from cPanel shows how to bring a site and its database, then your domain, while your email stays where it is.
