WordPress with bbPress

Install WordPress with bbPress in one click: a discussion forum on WordPress. What it makes, its admin page and first steps.

Updated 29 Oct 20262 min read

Give your WordPress site a discussion board with bbPress: topics, replies and member profiles, all under the same login as the rest of the site. Each plugin version is taken from wordpress.org at an exact number and checked against that site's own checksums before it is ever run.

What it makes

  • A WordPress site with 512 MB of memory and half a processor: a forum is light work, and these ceilings move whenever you want them to. You pay for the time the board really uses, not for the ceiling. See limits.

  • Its own MySQL database, made and connected for you.

  • A free address with HTTPS, and a place in the project's backups from the first day.

Install it

Asha's customers keep asking her the same questions, so duka gets a board of its own.

  1. In the project, open Add a service on the Overview and choose From the catalog.

  2. Search for WordPress with bbPress, or find it in its category, and press Install.

  3. Name the app (forum says what it is), then give the Admin email you'll sign in with.

  4. Check the limits and the monthly estimate before you press Install.

One strong password appears on the screen: copy it before you press I've saved it. Until the card reaches Ready, the board waits where only you can see it.

Its admin page

Open the board's /wp-admin/ from the card's Open its admin page button and sign in. Then:

  1. Forums → New Forum — the first place people will talk.

  2. Settings → Forums — who may post, and how topics behave.

  3. Settings → General — let visitors register, if the board is open to everyone.

From then on it runs like any forum: you pin what matters, close what's done, and clear the occasional spam reply from Topics.

Updates

bbPress looks after its own updates along with WordPress, and the project's daily backups cover both. If a conversation matters, export it now and then. The WordPress page says more about the site underneath.

Licence

bbPress belongs to its makers and keeps its own licence, GPL-2.0-or-later. Its website: bbpress.org.
